During WWII Germany was recruiting troops to the SS, a special force for nazi Germany. Nazi Germany wanted more troops and more power in order to take over more countries in Europe. The party was lead by no one other than Adolf Hitler, they had pride for their country and nationality. He had many speeches regarding the devastating state of Germany economy wise after the Great Depression in the US saying if they fight communism and the jews all their problems will be solved (History.com). Hitler tried recruiting troops to the Waffen-SS party and he had done that among speeches and nazi propaganda, portraying the ‘right side of the truth. History tells its story of what happened, Adolf Hitler took control over Germany, drove out the jewish people, built a strong army, colonized and occupied countries and, one of those countries is Norway. Germany occupied Norway in 1940 even though Norway had declared neutrality in the second world war, here they had also tried recruiting troops from Norway to join by using propaganda. Propaganda is a systematic effort to manipulate other people's beliefs, attitudes and action by means of symbols such as posters, pictures or movies (britania.com).

Germany are taking use of the norse mythology to encourage norwegians that soldiers who fight enter heaven and join the other gods. With no difference in between them, they portrayed the vikings equally as strong looking as the German soldier. On the helmet of the Waffen-SS the SS looks like two lightning bolts, lightning bolts in norse mythology relates to the god of thunder Thor. It is a rune known as the sig rune which meant ‘victory’ having it designed in their uniform shows that they are victorious and having the northern men join them they will be victorious with them
