“I don’t give a damn, except that I get bored sometimes when people tell me to act my age. Sometimes I act a lot older than I am - I really do - but people never notice it. People never notice anything.” J.D Salinger is the author of the novel Catcher in the Rye. The novel is about a boy named Holden Caulfield and he feels like he doesn’t fit in with the rest of the world. Holden has dropped out of many schools, he feels alienated, and shows signs of depression. Do most teenagers nowadays feel like they don’t fit in their society? Do teenagers feel alienated? I myself am afraid of adulthood. I know most teens are as well and they try to understand what is going on and some worry about their future. Other teens may act a different way, for example some teens may cut themselves from the real world. The way teenagers can do that is that they can protect themselves by lying, alienating themselves, or by avoiding the problems they may face. Holden Caulfield see’s adulthood as something phony. Teenagers now also see adulthood as something phony and they just don’t pay attention and try to alienate themselves from adulthood. I would recommend this novel for teens because I find several relations to this novel. The novel shows how Holden Caulfield is frightened from adulthood and I think several teenagers can relate to this novel as well. Holden feels alienated, depressed, stressed and feels as if no one understand what he is going through. I think that most teenagers in this society also feel that way. I the end holden stays with his parents and wants to better himself. I think that many teenagers might find the inspiration in the novel to try hard and also better themselves like Holden
