Holmes was arrested in 1894 by the Boston police department because all of the insurance fraud that he committed throughout his life had caught up to him. He was in Boston because he owned many residences in Boston during his time. The most famous place was 838 Columbous Avenue because on November 17 1894 he was arrested there and the arrest caused a scene in the drug store below because the people wanted to know why and who it was being arrested(Holmes Arrest in Boston). He was arrested for insurance fraud when he tried to collect insurance from a person that he murdered and ran a horse scandal. While he was in Texas, they issued a warrant for his arrest for horse theft, another reason that he was in Boston. He chose Boston because he knew people there …show more content…

He went without a fight, probably because he thought that he could get himself out of the situation by doing what he did best: lying. When they took him in, he didn't know that they knew about the horse in Texas. So he couldn't lie about this one. After some time in custody, he hinted at killing many more, up to 200 people. He confessed to the killing and fraud, saying, “I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than a poet can help the inspiration to sing”(History.com). In saying this, he believes that fate had decided his outcome before he was even smart enough to think for himself. The justice that he faced was that he had to be interrogated by the police in different cities. The trial went well for the people of the cities that he tortured and for the families that he ruined. He wasn't prepared to lie his way out of such serious charges and he folded under the pressure that was put on him, eventually admitting all of the frauds that they already knew he did.
