So my article is on homeless kids in high school. Normally no one really thinks of what other kids are going through, most generally everyone is caught up in stuff like grades, did you hear that someone got in a fight, did you hear that they broke up, look at her makeup, you know gossip. In reality we are not really thinking any further than what we see in the surface of others. All of that other stuff I mentioned is not all that important when you consider that there are students that are worried about what they are going to eat or if they will even have anything to eat. They are worried about where they are going to live, if they are even going to have a roof over their head after school. You see school is like their safe haven to many …show more content…

All it takes is kindness in order to make a really a big difference in their life. So if you see someone bullying someone else, stop it, make a stand, help them, you don't know what they are going through and the bullying won't help at all. Even the person bullying the other might be going through something, homeless or not, but we all have one thing in common we all have our own struggles, we are all going through something. It may be big or small it is still something. When I walked into the social worker’s office I was expecting it to be all “boss lady/man-ish” boy was I wrong. When I walked in I saw piles of clothes and shoes, food, personal hygiene stuff, an air mattress and so much more. I was overwhelmed with the stuff, it was like a bomb shelter, sort of. But she kept all of that for the kids, she explained how some of the kids have to carry their clothes with them to and from school or else it might get stolen. You all know what that looks like, is so imagine you and your family sleeping in a small hotel room with maybe two beds if …show more content…

It isn’t always what you see on TV with people living under bridges or back alleys. We have a few hundred right here within our district. They may be in the room with us right now. Do you know how you can tell the difference? You can’t, because we are all the same, yet not. The difference between any of us is circumstances that we as “kids” are out of our control. Death of a family member, loss of job, physical disability, the list goes on and on. It could happen to any parent, any family, any student. In the United States there is no reason for any one to go hungry. There is no reason for a students only meals to be those eaten within these walls, to go home at night knowing there is no dinner, going home on Friday knowing there won’t be anything until they come back to school on Monday. A child should not have to carry their life in their backpack. A child should not live in a car. Each child deserves the peace of mind knowing where there are going when they get out of school at the end of the day. Again what can we do, no real effort needed, just be kind. Shouldn’t have to say that, but I do. Stop the pity party, stop being so ungrateful and shallow. Do something great, be kind. Do something great, find an answer to solving a problem with so many victims. You don’t hear about this on the news, yet it sounds like an epidemic with countless victims who will struggle academically, socially and emotionally for
