The authors of “Ulysses” have written this poem to capture the reader’s attention utilizing in the first paragraph "Unequal laws unto a savage race that hoards, and sleep, and feed, and know not me."(3) Based upon this statement alone I know that the reader is in between places that share different laws from which he has come. He speaks of his ability to identify with the new culture, because they recognize him not as an outsider. The author makes clear that in the quote above Ulysses is by himself with only his things in which he hold closely to him. His situation symbolizes homelessness.
