There is a large issue with homelessness around the world, and Portland, Oregon, is no exception from this. Homelessness is a complex issue that hurts a lot of people. Portland officials are trying to solve the issue, so we can help these suffering people. A great deal of debate arises around this topic and there are many different arguments for how to solve it. When talking about how many homeless are in Portland, Pyzyk reveals, “This year, Multnomah County’s point-in-time homeless count showed more than 5,200 people experiencing homelessness.” This problem has emerged throughout the years, the lack of funding for homeless, bad communication between officials, and political climate of Portland are all contributing factors. One of the primary reasons for the debate is the complexity of the issue. The main problem for why there is a lot of homeless is the lack of housing, but a long with that, there are mental health issues, drug abuse, and money issues. While there are many organizations working to provide housing and services to the homeless, they often operate independently and do not work together effectively. Many organizations are doing a lot of good and helping homeless people, but if they all worked together it could be possible to come up with a solution to end homelessness. All of these organizsations collect a lot of data and think of how useful that could be if they combined all of it.
