This project was chosen to investigate the decline of the honeybee and the impact on Australian agriculture. The honeybee decline is interconnected with environmental sustainability with key environmental challenges threatening the future of the honeybee and the industry of beekeeping. Some of these factors such as land degradation, limited water availability, loss of plant biodiversity, climate change, pests and pesticides loss of public lands such as National Parks, State forests and reserves, all impact on the sustainability and ecosystems which the honeybee depends and likewise, the ecosystems depend on the honeybee. With the disappearance of land to urbanisation and government restrictions on access to public lands some 70% of Australian
10 May 2017. It's hard to imagine that an animal as small and inconspicuous as a bee, could be our greatest ally in providing food, but approximately one third of everything we eat is a direct result of their hard work. Khouri, Nabila. "Bees are dying -- what can we do about it?"CNN.
The Secret Lives of People The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, is an interesting story that connects human lives to bees. The story takes place in 1964 during the Civil Rights Movement and fourteen year-old Lily Owens leaves her abusive father and her home in Sylvan, South Carolina to go to Tiburon with hopes to find information on her mother. Throughout the story, Lily struggles with many internal conflicts and also meets several mother figures along the way.
Coming-of-age activities changed and stayed similar over the years showing how teenagers growing up is different in specific time eras but can be seen as similar too. Coming of age is a transformative period in a person’s life when transitioning from childhood into adulthood. Usually, this person will go through an event that requires them to use new skills and has responsibilities that they did not have as a child but now will have in adulthood. Experiencing loss and having a newfound perception of parents serves as necessary coming-of-age activities that can shape an individual's identity and growth as they transition into adulthood. Lily is featured in The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
Impact of Setting Each story has a perfectly unique setting that is specific to the time and place in which the story is told. The setting of a story is extremely important to not only the characters but also the reader. It helps the reader feel connected to the characters, bringing the story to life. In Sue Monk Kidd’s book The Secret Life of Bees, setting is used to bring the reader into the story.
It is estimated that approximately 1/3 of human's food supply depends on bees. This is because bees are very effective pollinators. Bees spend most of their lives out in the world collecting nectar and pollen from flowers in order to make their own honey. By doing this, bees inadvertently pollinate the crops they are feeding off of when the pollen from one flower attaches itself
Critical Writing Assignment #2 Keeping The Bees is a book written by Laurence Packer and published by HarperCollins Publishers in 2011. This book focuses on why all bees are at risk and what we can do as individuals, consumers and society to save them. Laurence Packer is a melittologist who has a B.A in zoology, A Ph.D from York university, where he now currently works, and a strong passion for bees and their conservation. This book’s many chapters all had different topics but they all related to one bigger topic, which is bees. Some of the topics included; how the extinction of bees would affect our world, our food, our ecosystem and basically everything around us.
They poise a much larger threat to humans which allergies and pets which can lead to more hospitals visits and even death in severe allergic reactions to the venom. If the African bees take over areas that have been previously inhabited by European honey bees, there will be a decline in the number of crops that will be pollinated. The African bees are known to not produce as much pollen or honey This can lead to food shortages and various other consequences affecting humans. Because South America and The United State Produce large quantities of food for the world, the bees not only affect a small percentage of the globe but the entire world.
A sudden lack in the insect would lead to many food crops dying off, causing human starvation and thousands to be without a job. A life without honey bees would be an incredibly unrewarding and difficult life to live.
This again stops the bees from doing their job of pollinating and stops them from getting the food they need to survive. The community can help bees survive by employing a few tactics. One tactic alone will not cure the bee population degradation but it can help boost the bee population. One local and more personal tactic would be to have a “bee garden” that consists of flowering plants that bees like which include apples, oranges, lemons, limes, cucumbers, carrots, and cantaloupes. Another tactic would be do be more environmentally conscious.
Without bees, there would not be as much food for humans to survive. Even though we need bees to survive many people go on with their day not ever thinking of what can save the bees. They use pesticides to grow their grass, never buy organic food or honey, and even kill bees that come near them. Scientist today started working on many different experiments to help save the
If we had honeybees in our world, it would be a better place to live on. Honeybees have been disappearing and going out of sight for years. Some of the people think the purpose of bees is only to make honey but there is so much more than that to bees. The insects which we call honeybees need and have to stay alive in our world. Without honeybees our trees and plants would die out.
Every day bees are disappearing from their colonies at dangerously rapid rates. Everyone should become bee keepers and/or have bee gardens. It is the peoples’ duty to protect and save the bees. Bees play a major role in our everyday lives, and they go unnoticed. Without bees our food supply would quickly decrease.

This novel took place in Sylvan and Tiburon, South Carolina, where Lily grew up and where she found the answer to her questions.
