Identification: Honey Bees are known to have a positive impact on the environment. They pollinate flowers and crops that are eaten and produce honey that is consumed by people all over the world. However, the Africanized honey bee or killer bee is causing havoc and mayhem throughout the United States and South America. The African bees are a part of the order hymenoptera which also contains other flying insects such as wasps and other bees. Africanized bees are almost identical to normal honey bees which makes them difficult to identify. The African Bees are much more aggressive than other types of bees and are a threat to humans with allergies as well as livestock and pets that are living outside. The aggressiveness is due to the high rate at which the bees can reproduce. Because of the competition between the bees, the bees exhibit much more aggression and defense of their hives. The African Bees were brought from Africa to Brazil in the 1950’s in order to boost the honey production In South America. The bees were intended to mate with European honey bees and create a hybrid. They poise a much larger threat to humans which allergies and pets which can lead to more hospitals visits and even death in severe allergic reactions to the venom. If the African bees take over areas that have been previously inhabited by European honey bees, there will be a decline in the number of crops that will be pollinated. The African bees are known to not produce as much pollen or honey This can lead to food shortages and various other consequences affecting humans. Because South America and The United State Produce large quantities of food for the world, the bees not only affect a small percentage of the globe but the entire world.
