10 May 2017. It's hard to imagine that an animal as small and inconspicuous as a bee, could be our greatest ally in providing food, but approximately one third of everything we eat is a direct result of their hard work. Khouri, Nabila. "Bees are dying -- what can we do about it?"CNN.
Critical Writing Assignment #2 Keeping The Bees is a book written by Laurence Packer and published by HarperCollins Publishers in 2011. This book focuses on why all bees are at risk and what we can do as individuals, consumers and society to save them. Laurence Packer is a melittologist who has a B.A in zoology, A Ph.D from York university, where he now currently works, and a strong passion for bees and their conservation. This book’s many chapters all had different topics but they all related to one bigger topic, which is bees. Some of the topics included; how the extinction of bees would affect our world, our food, our ecosystem and basically everything around us.
Secondly, bees are important for our society . they are essential for our ecosystem, bees are vital for pollination , which include alot of fruits , vegetable and honey production . they are also important for our economy . for example in the U.S. , the benefit of pollination is of 15 billion dollars each year , and more than one million bee colonies are needed for pollination .
Identification: Honey Bees are known to have a positive impact on the environment. They pollinate flowers and crops that are eaten and produce honey that is consumed by people all over the world. However, the Africanized honey bee or killer bee is causing havoc and mayhem throughout the United States and South America. The African bees are a part of the order hymenoptera which also contains other flying insects such as wasps and other bees. Africanized bees are almost identical to normal honey bees which makes them difficult to identify.
But this bothers a lot of ecologists who say that honeybee hives aren't natural and they don't help the environment. In fact, they may harm it.” Dan Charles believes, “It annoyed him because honeybees are not exactly part of nature. They were originally imported from Europe. Beekeepers keep them by the millions to make honey and pollinate crops like almonds.
“Educate yourself and your children about bees. Bees are not dangerous; they forage on a flower and don’t attack humans” (“10 Ways You Can Help Save The Bees”). People who mess with bee hives only make everything worse and get the bees upset and feeling threatened, so they go after anybody. Bee hives produce honey which is why they need to be left alone. “By better understanding them we will learn to better respect them” (“10 Ways You Can Help Save The Bees”).
With less crops, animals that rely on crops for food have to starve, also leaving farmers jobless. Bees are essential to the human population, but due to exotic fertilizers and habitat loss, countless species and jobs are endangered. Today, bees pollinate plants
Bees aren’t just a crucial part of our world. They are also a critical factor in the animal kingdom as well. Honeybees are arguably the most exceptional animals in the world. The fact that they’re non-native doesn’t make them any less
This again stops the bees from doing their job of pollinating and stops them from getting the food they need to survive. The community can help bees survive by employing a few tactics. One tactic alone will not cure the bee population degradation but it can help boost the bee population. One local and more personal tactic would be to have a “bee garden” that consists of flowering plants that bees like which include apples, oranges, lemons, limes, cucumbers, carrots, and cantaloupes. Another tactic would be do be more environmentally conscious.
Every day millions of honey bees fly back and forth from their hives. They pollinate a plethora of flowers and produce great amounts of honey. Many people do not realize what bees do for them and their communities. Without bees, people would not have any fresh flowers or produce. The bee population helps provide growth to one-third of the food in the world (Haltiwanger).
Dear fellow students, and teacher, today I will talk to you about the importance of bees. Imagine a world without bees. They may seem irrelevant, however if that was the case, over 90% of our fresh foods would be gone. Over ⅓ of the world’s population is dependant on bees.
Every day bees are disappearing from their colonies at dangerously rapid rates. Everyone should become bee keepers and/or have bee gardens. It is the peoples’ duty to protect and save the bees. Bees play a major role in our everyday lives, and they go unnoticed. Without bees our food supply would quickly decrease.
Bees are major factor in our environment. But recent studies show that we are to blame for the decline in the Bee populations. The main reasons are industrial agriculture (pesticides), mites and climate change. And we should care about them because they provide us with honey and beeswax, and provide a major ecosystem service in the form of pollination. Bees pollinate a lot of crops like apple, citrus, strawberry, blueberry, tomato, melon, oilseed rape, carrot, etc.
