People are slaughtered for making choices that are deemed to be damaging family reputation by usual a male figure. Honor killings, like that described in Chronicle of a Death Foretold, are still happening in the world today. Honor killing is not an abnormal in Pakistan where a father murdered his daughter for a petty reason.
