Hop's Stereotypes: Who Is A Magician

Hop is a small and adorable white rabbit who is a magician. He often wears a tattered black magicians cape and top hat, but likes to switch to black sunglasses and a leather jacket if he’s trying to impress people.

He is the protagonist of the show, and contrary to his innocent appearance, Hop is rather vain and self-obsessed. He hates being called cute, and wants to be perceived as a tough and well-respected magician. Even though he is quite narcissistic, he still lacks confidence deep down, and must learn to be less superficial. He is extremely desperate for fame and attention, and his self-centredness is one of his main flaws. Despite all this, Hop cares for his friends deeply and ultimately must learn that he doesn’t need to do everything

His previous owner, who goes by ‘John the Magnificent’ was not the most successful magician, and is very similar to Hop in this sense. Hop loved John but eventually became tired of his failed attempts at stardom, and his lack of credit as a magician’s rabbit; so he escaped and became a magician himself. Hop wants to erase the stereotypes that come with being a white rabbit; he is tired of being perceived as nothing more than a magician’s prop, and gets angry at small things such as others assuming he loves carrots. Twitch is more of a traditional magician, who believes that a magician’s rabbits should stick close to and obey their owners. At a surface level, Twitch is very charming and seemingly humble, but it is clear there is something slightly suspicious about him. When he interacts with Hop it is clear that his behaviour is purely a front - deep down he is evil, pretentious and a bit of a fraud, as he steals his owners tricks rather than inventing his own. He wants to make Hop seem bad in any way he can, and loves nothing more than rubbing his fame and success in Hop’s face. Ultimately, Twitch lacks love and friendship in his life, and is jealous of Hop.

Twitch has an owner who is called ‘The Mindbender’. He is a very successful magician that is known throughout the whole of Starry City, and his nemesis is John the Magnificent, Hop’s previous owner. The Mindbender does not treat Twitch very well, and sees him as nothing more than a prop, but Twitch still stays loyal to him despite secretly being unhappy with how he is treated. He prefers to take a more ordinary stance on magic and looks down upon Hop’s cool and youthful demeanour.
