A hero is someone who has pride and is committed to putting others before themselves. Heroes risk their own lives to save others. In the book The Outsiders, the greasers are not considered heroes. All three of the boys; Dally, Johnny and Ponyboy are heroes by my definition.
I believe that Johnny Cade is a hero because he went into the burning church and he died saving those kids. He had no fear going into the church, he was only thinking about saving the kids. Johnny suffered from severe burns and was paralyzed from the waist down. “ He was in critical condition. His back had been broken when that piece of timber fell on him. He stayed with Johnny when he wanted to run away so the cops wouldn’t find him and changed his look for him. Greasers are really particular when it comes to their hair, so the fact that Ponyboy dyed his hair for Johnny is very courteous. Hes also a hero because he stays strong for Johnny.
