As a whole, humanity has made many mistakes, big and small. While writers could blatantly state all of our problems, it is more enjoyable for them to take a satirical approach. Satire is “the use of strong, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly” (Dictionary). Satire also “involves both, oral judgement and a desire to improve a belief or tradition” (Satire). When reading satire, the underlying message can make the reader laugh and show how ridiculous something things are through a cartoon, or even a meme. Writers use satire to expose and criticize foolishness and corruption of society by using horatian and juvenalian satire.
