The neurological system of the horse is very similar to that of a human, and any other animal with a nervous system. The horse’s nervous system includes the brain, which is the most important part of the system and is responsible for receiving transmissions from the nerves that tell the mind what the body is sensing in any form, such as taste, feel, smell, sound, or sight, then the brain processes the information, and sends back the necessary response to the body for a reaction. The nervous system is also made up of the spinal cord, the brainstem, sensory neurons that receive the signals from the environment and send them to the brain, connecting neurons which connect with the sensory neurons to retrieve the information and transport it through the nervous system, and motor neurons, which take the information to the brain to …show more content…

If a horse shows these signs, in conjunction with been in a situation that may have resulted in a spinal injury or if the horse’s bloodlines have a history of Wobblers’ Syndrome, the veterinarian must be alerted right away to prevent the case from becoming any more severe, and to help treat the horse. Although there is no cure, there are some treatments that can make the animal’s life easier. Prescription drugs can be used to minimize pain and help encourage tissue to grow around the damaged or malformed vertebrae, but fail to actually target the compression and fix the problem. That is why another option, surgery, is recommended in extreme cases. The surgical operation includes implanting a titanium basket within the affected vertebrae to encourage fusion of the bones and release the compression so that the horse can send and receive the necessary information to live as normally as
