Hope and Horses Therapeutic horseback riding is extraordinarily beneficial for a rider of any age. History records people with disabilities riding horses as early as the days of the ancient Greeks. The benefits of horseback riding are as numerous as the types of disabilities in children around the world. No matter how long a horse has known a person, they have a unique way of communicating with a person and knowing how to work with them. Horseback riding can help assist people struggling with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain damage, visual impairments, autism, ADD, paralysis, down syndrome, stress disorders, and more. Horseback riding for the disabled is recognized as one of the more progressive forms of therapy. My purpose for choosing this topic is to research and learn about how a disabled child would develop from therapeutic horseback riding. In the future, I want to develop a career as a pediatric psychiatrist. This research paper will help guide me through the benefits of working with kids. I have loved horses ever since I was little and working with kids is my passion. It is an amazing privilege for me to be able to incorporate the two into my project. This project will help me to learn about what I plan to pursue in my future.
