I have learnt at my hospice placement not all patients interact and communicate n the same way. Understanding the communication requirements is essential for the individual to express their preference, state what is wrong with them and to provide constructive feedback.

Mrs P has dual sensory impairment of eyes and hearing; communication requires to be performed in a specific manner for her to understand. I position my eyes level to hers, touch her shoulder or knee; speak slowly and clearly so she can observe my lips move at close range. This method of interaction will increase the likelihood of clear understanding.
