Within the movie Hotel Rwanda, Paul Rusesabagina a successful hotel manager in central Africa, risking his life while trying to keep his people safe from the ongoing civil war. Originally the Hutu and the Tutsi ethnic groups put aside their differences to work together but since 1860’s the Tutsi tribe gained power and overthrew the peace treaty. Tatiana and their children are Tutsi which leaves Paul in a very uncomfortable situation, making decisions for his family as well as the people he's trying to protect. Armed forces of Rwanda supported the Hutu resistance movement against the Rwandan Patriotic front made up of mostly Tutsi refugees. The impact the genocide had on the people of Rwanda was tremendous, the people were tortured and terrorized as they witnessed their loved ones being killed.

Paul managed to gain protection from the Rwandan armed forces who supported Juvénal Habyarimana, using the hotel earnings and his personal belongings to buy his family and friends time. Paul's passion for humanity allowed him to care for his people, during the first riot that officially divided the two ethnic groups of people, he managed to hide his neighbours. In 1992 Paul was promoted to manager, his job allowed him to work with high-profile clients which granted him beneficial contacts who are willing to help. After the president was killed the hotel owners fled the country to maintain safety leaving Paul in charge. He was able to harbor thousands of refugees, keeping them safe from rebel forces as well as using bribery to maintain safety. Through constant battle of bribing the military for protection, Paul finally managed to receive help from UN to protect the refugees in the hotel. The UN only bought the refugees a little time, until Paul organized transportation for thirteen hundred refugees taking them to a real camp, finally becoming safe from the
