How was society in Athens similar to and different from society in Sparta?

Athens and Sparta were both located around the Mediterranean Sea on the Greek peninsula, now called Italy. Both societies exchange ideas and cultures, but didn't like one another, why? Although both Athens and Sparta were Greek city-states, they both value different things. Athens valued education while Sparta valued military and strength. They both shared similarities in areas such as religion and government. What were the reasons Athens and Sparta dislike one other? Was it the wars they fought over the years or the resources they had to share? Both civilizations were different but throughout history made many achievements and discoveries to our modern world. The Athenian government had three branches of government: The Assembly, The Court of five hundred, and The Courts. The Assembly was where male citizens over 18 years old could vote on laws. The Court of five hundred would randomly select citizens to serve for a year to propose laws to The Assembly. The Court was responsible for judging legal cases. Athens also had a system called ostracism where citizens would vote to exile a citizen from Athens for 10 years. Sparta's government was an oligarchy which means a small group of people ruled. Sparta's government was a little bit different. Two kings and a group of elders controlled the government. The two kings were selected from two royal families and had equal power. They were responsible for leading wars and making important decisions on war and policies. The Council of Elders was made up of 28 men over 60 years old who were selected for life, they made decisions on laws and acted as judges. Sparta also had an Assembly made up of men over 30 but this branch had less power, they voted on certain issues such as war and peace.
