Discussion: Briefly discuss how the governments of Rome and Carthage differed.
When I indulged myself in studying the Punic Wars, I found ancient Rome's fortune was inseparable from its arch-rival, Carthage. For one, no two superpower could be more evenly matched, which I reasoned there must be some strong governmental forces at work behind the two leading contenders in their pursuit of political dominance during the 200s and 100s B.C. Hence, it is worthy discovering their system and comparing how their national structures differ in the following.

This aristocracy was characterized and dominated by opposing families...for enterprising citizens, especially rich merchants, there was the possibility to join this aristocracy as wealth was the overriding factor for success in politics."(Catwright, 2016). Simply put, it seemed to me that "the best and the few" kept a tight grip on Carthage.
Taken together, in many ways, the governments of Rome and Carthage were polar opposites, the former gave ordinary people the right to vote and govern the state, though "real political power was centered in the Senate"(n.d.). By comparison, Carthaginian empire was a mixture of various systems that they complemented each other which "created a unique organization rarely seen in the ancient world"(n.d.).
