In Scott Fitzgerald's novel the great Gatsby two characters that play an important role in the story are Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan. While they both come from different backgrounds, they both have prominent placement in society; their personalities and motivations differ greatly; Gatsby is portrayed as a mysterious and ambitious man who is deeply in love with Daisy Buchanan. Well, Tom is depicted as a wealthy and arrogant individual who represents the old money Elite. Despite their differences, Gatsby and Tom share some similarities such as their in upper-class society (Fitzgerald 89). Ultimately, their positive and negative characteristics set them apart; we're going to analyze Tom and Gatsby and see their differences in similarities and why Daisy might be attracted to each of them. Gatsby's wavering love and devotion to Daisy appeal to her romantic dreams of doing something Tom has not done for a while. Gatsby's charming charisma draws Daisy in, making her feel alive and desired. "Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay"(Fitzgerald 63). On the other hand, Tom's confidence, wealth, and status in society fill Daisy's desire for security and stability. Also, his confident nature and ability to take charge in situations is an attractive prospect for someone who's used to a life of privilege and comfort. something else that draws Daisy towards Gatsby is true
