What do you consider a hero? What do you consider a villain? Can someone be both a hero and a villain? Well in the realistic fiction novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are two gangs, the greasers and the socs. The greasers are very loyal to each other, and they even treat each other like family, but there is this one character named Johnny Cade, who is pretty shy but could be a hero and a criminal.
When asked to describe a hero, Mickey Mantle, famous baseball player for the New York Yankees, Said “Heroes are people who are all good with no bad in them” This quote shows that a hero is someone who always does the right thing and has good intentions. What a hero should look like now is someone who is loyal and brave. In Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, Odysseus proves that he is a hero when he went to save his men on “Circe’s Island.” and defeated the cyclops in “The Cave of the Cyclops.”
Odysseus and Thomas Jefferson: Looking into History to Define What a Hero is Heroes used to be considered people who held great power and always came out on top no matter how high the odds were stacked against them. Today we are more critical of the people we look up to, which I believe to be a good thing. We now realize that the people we consider heroes must be good people, who even though they have flaws, try their hardest to do good for the world. Another interesting question is what it means to be a bad person. Is a bad person someone who is inherently bad?
Who is a hero? A hero takes many forms, such as an allegorical hero, a tragic hero, or an epic hero. In the age of postmodernism, there are instances where a person can be both a hero and a villain. Odysseus is difficult to identify as a hero because of his many vices.
Commonly the protagonist of a story is the hero, showing the typical characteristics of bravery, strength, and ingenuity, while always undertaking dangerous tasks to help others. However, there are different kinds of heroes, who range in their attributes. An anti-hero has both good and bad qualities to their character and generally has moral flaws. The personality of anti-heroes is more of a villainous nature and is the character of a story that is more relatable. R.P. McMurphy from Ken Kesey’s One
A hero can be anyone. In the book “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, the two characters Pony and Darry are heroes. Another character, Dally, is not. A hero is someone who never gives up, puts his or her life on the line for others, and cares for everyone. Anyone can be a hero.
A hero is a villain in the eyes of someone else. This implies that even though someone may be a villain to you, they are a hero in some else's eyes. This applies to both Tom Robinson from To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee and Victor from Cracked written by K.M Walton. Victor and Tom are both be hated by the people they live with. In Toms case, he is being hated by his small town.
“Every villain is a hero in his own mind.” This quote comes from the fictional villain Loki. Although this character is not real, his words in itself could not be any more real. Alexander the Great did terrible things for the sake of his empire. To be a hero means to be selfless, humble, and a great leader.
Wouldn’t it depend on a specific situation if someone is a hero or not? For example, if someone is attempting to mug someone on the street and someone attacks the mugger, they would be the hero right? But what they kill the mugger, will the killer still be a hero? Or would he be a murderer? The question rejects itself.
A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities (Hero). A Villain is a person who has evil actions or motives to harm people (Villain). In my opinion, a hero is usually the person in the story that everyone likes or looks to for help and the villain is the misunderstood or worst person in a situation. As humans we can be portrayed as a hero or villain when diverse situations occur. In August Wilson’s play, “Fences” Troy Maxson’s past, present and future caused significant traits of being called a hero and a villain in segments throughout the play.
Heroes and villains are defined by the actions and decisions that persuade them to act upon a situation. Those actions and decisions are life-changing from many perspectives, from ending up as the hero of a comic book to the victim of a crazy psychotic clown. It all depends on the motives of the person involved. In the story "Where are you going? Where have you been?" by Joyce Carol Oates, Connie can be considered a victim to the reader because the overall tone of the story is apathetic and ominous, the lack of parental figures around her caused her to be vulnerable toward harm, and a strange person was able to take her without anyone noticing.
Things like religion and science are great examples of this. A villain is someone we do not understand. Therefor a hero would be naturally draw to
A hero is someone who does a meaningful deed, worthy of remembrance and selflessly. Andrew Carnegie was a wealthy man. After he sold his steel company in 1900, he devoted the rest of his life giving money to charity. Did Andrew Carnegie’s generosity make him a hero? Andrew Carnegie was not a hero.
There are various approaches to describing a hero. There is also an infinite number of individuals who can be defined as heroes. A hero can be a person who demonstrates valor. A hero can be a champion. A hero can even save a life or even mankind.
To me, a hero is someone who gives everything they have to assure the happiness of others and a hero is also someone who gives up his life or her life so someone else could live. In all honesty, a hero isn’t really what we think a “hero” is based on definitions and what the movies or even comic books have told us. Anyone can be
