Wind power – energy source of the future?

Wind power has been a big topic in recent years. With the rise of renewable energy sources, wind power is on everybody’s minds, but is that justified? Can wind power really be considered the energy source of the future?

One of the most commonly used arguments against the use of wind energy is simply the massive size of the machines required to harness the power of the wind. These gigantic constructs of metal raise from the ground, obscuring our view of beautiful landscapes – what was once nature is slowly turning into an obscure corn field, and the wind turbines are the ugly scarecrows. While such concerns are justified, there is already a solution to this issue. With the introduction of offshore wind turbines, the wind we turn into electricity comes from out in the ocean, where no human would ever dare walk, unless they were Jesus. But not only does this solve the issue with obstructing our view, these turbines are also quite effective! In the UK, 700MW of offshore turbines have already been installed, and a total of 4.2GW has been planned to be installed in the future. Compare that to only 1GW of electricity produced by a large coal-fired power

We can’t say for sure whether or not the use of wind power will have a negative impact on our environment somewhere along the road. It may sound absurd, but maybe in 50 years, massive hurricanes might ravage the land, caused by nothing but our foolish attempts at using the energy of the wind for ourselves. Wind energy hasn’t been in use for long enough to make such predictions. Therefore, it could be argued that there is no need for concern as of yet. So far, there haven’t been any negative consequences as a result of our investment in wind power. Should a threat present itself, however, we will surely find a way to combat it. After all, humanity is an adaptive race, and we learn from our
