How Did African American Culture Influence Music In The Early 1900's

Only one language in the history of everything can communicate feelings to anyone in the entire world without saying a single word. This language has been around before written history itself was invented. That is right, music. Every culture is influenced music. On top of music’s rich history in culture it also has a strong role in humans both physically and emotionally. We are going to look at the Jazz age of music and show why that was such an important role in America’s vast history by younger kids would stay off the streets, different races were together in a time of segregation, and because of music the economy was improved. Taking troubled youth off the streets to educate them and use music in the process lowers crime rate by as much as twenty-five percent (NCPC.Org, 2015). This can be because children who are taken off the street and then spend their time learning how to play an instrument know what it feels like to work hard for something and earn the rewards that come along with that in a positive, self improving way. This separation lead to Black only or White only bars, movies, and even water fountains (The Greensboro Chronology) In the 1920’s there were many African American jazz musicians that would be asked to preform at white only events. Many such musicians include famous artist such as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Benny Goodman. Although they were only there for their entertainment, the musicians were still highly respected for their skills. Although, that is not the biggest step forward in stopping segregation it was still an amazing first step. Maybe without jazz America would still be highly segregated.
