Throughout America's history, African Americans suffered racism, bias, including constant scolding during the 19th century. Nevertheless, perspectives shifted distinctly, when the American Dream surged through hearts of the previously shunned race, migrating in mass numbers, known as The Great Migration. With the traveling immigrants, they brought about Jazz to liven up the dull streets with legendary names such as Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington. Their new sounds caught thousands of people’s attention, improving the African American race to new confidence as never before. As a result, their legacy not only established new grounds for African Americans but also contributed to America’s modern swing to the sounds of Jazz.
In the Early 1920s African Americans began to feel the need to express themselves and thus new art, poetry and music was created. During this, one new music type exploded in popularity throughout the 1920s and began its evolution into the music now known as Jazz. Jazz became extremely popular in the 1920s do to the mixing of cultures in the instruments and the African American stories told through the lyrics that defined it. The music type known as jazz can be said to have first popped up in New Orleans but that is not necessarily true as the musical sounds actuated with jazz have been said to have came up at other places at different times but New Orleans is where jazz first got really popular.
Jazz music has spread around the world. It has drawn on national and regional musical cultures. Jazz has been the most important social factor that black musicians were able to record the blues, gospel and more. These musicians lived through inequality and many discovered their freedom in jazz. Jazz doesn’t have a specific date when it all started it and there wasn’t a specific person who started everything or one particular culture that influenced jazz. It was a mixing of souls and emotions of many people of many cultures. New Orleans is a multicultural city with influences such as French, Spanish, African, Italian, German, and Irish, they all add a little flavor to the pot. The city of New Orleans has more liberal outlook on life with an appreciation of good food, wine, music, and dancing. These influenced locals to take the sounds of what they heard in churches and the music they heard in barrooms.
