Jazz has shaped the world we know today. Jazz would have never been as popular without the help of the famous musicians: Jelly Roll Morton, Joe King Oliver, Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington. These people helped spread the new genre through radio, railroads, and the records that they played. Where did this all start? The jazz age began in New Orleans where a certain King was born.
1) Because of people like Louis Armstrong, Ceril Mack, or Eva Jessye Jazz and blues were able to blossom with several instruments and subgenres. The following information will be about how jazz started, those people's contributions, and the instruments/subgenres. Jazz is a music that is still around today, and it was started over 100 years ago around New Orleans. Because New Orleans is a port city, Jazz and blues could be heard by many.
Can you imagine having a diamond necklace in your desk when you did not put it in there? “The Kidnappers” by Willo Davis Robets and “Milo and Jazz" by Lewis B Montgomery were both good books to read. The characters in "Milo and Jazz” were better than the characters in “The Kidnappers”. The characters were more honest, relatable, and curious.
Jazz is most often thought to have been started in the 1920s as this explosive movement, but that is in fact not the case. Starting in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century many African American musicians have started to explore their taste in improvising, and where better to do that than New Orleans (Anderson). Before the 1920s these jazz musicians have already been going around sharing the unique sound, but up until then, jazz had remained majorly in New Orleans. Interestingly during this period, a common jazz band would consist of a cornet, a clarinet, a trombone, and a rhythm section when at this period of time the clarinet is not commonly associated with being a jazz instrument, it moved into being the saxophone rather. A big
I read an article about introducing jazz into the standard elementary music curriculum. Laura Ferguson’s idea was that if you introduced jazz into the standard curriculum, it will be very beneficial to the students learning and great to get them comfortable with jazz. Ferguson also talked about all the ways that you could fit the ideas into your current curriculum, ways to change what you already have, and to get students comfortable with improvisation. The author states many different ways to add jazz into the class. Ferguson gives many examples of taking games that already exist in your class, and just modifying them slightly.
Jazz was born in New Orleans about 100 years ago (early 20th century), but its roots can be found in the musical traditions of both Africa and Europe. In fact, some people say that jazz is a union of African and European music. Most legends are known for excelling in a specific field or for doing something so impactful on the world that they will be remembered for ages. What set Louis Armstrong apart from others considered to be legends is that he did this multiple times throughout his life and with ease. Over time there have been many people that have impacted the world and society we live in.
One of the foremost important 20th century terms, “politically correct”, was born out of need for humanitarians, politicians, and the like to better organize the wide variety of ethnicities, cultures, and religions into groups that are true and non-offensive. So, it has often crossed my mind that maybe the name of the Gypsy Jazz style isn’t quite politically correct; the name Romani is the preferred name of the people once considered to be “gypsies.” After all, that term has been used as a slur by people who think of the Romani as inferior, we use Hot Club Swing and Manouche Jazz that are much less discriminatory names for the style anyway. We’ve use the slur and Romani culture for our amusement and to capture the attention of audiences who
Jazz, on the other hand, grew out of ragtime and New Orleans style music, slowly making its way up the Mississippi River and on to Chicago where the term Jazz was first coined in 1913. “Blueberry hill”, one of the most famous early jazz songs, was composed by one of the most famous jazz music players, Louis Armstrong, nicknamed “Stachmo” and “pops” would be the best example to demonstrate the term “Jazz.” Armstrong was famous for playing trumpet. Blues and Jazz are interrelated most likely because of the fact that they are originated from the American South which means it is an African American style from the south. Improvisation is a major performance method for both Jazz and Blues.
Jazz is a style of music from America it is played by a strong but flexible understructure with solo and a single effect on basic tunes and chord patterns. Jazz was born in New Orleans about 100 years ago Black music came over to America with the African slaves. The African music was then combined with the music of the Europeans to produce new styles of music including blues and ragtime. The blacks then started to jazz up the marches in America which were very popular by adding rhythm, beats and melodies.
Hip hop on the other hand is an artic art of expression for many African Americans. The hip hop lyrics allow us to express our thoughts and feelings through song. Jazz vs Hip hop is different
Obviously if you have ever listened to rap or country music differences are pretty easy to hear, similarities between the two are also something you make pick up while listening. The genre of Hip Hop music was started on the East coast in the 1970’s particularly in parts of New York. Where country music was started in the South in the 1920’s. Hip Hop music became increasingly popular at block parties as drum machines, and turntables became more affordable. While country music has been played with instruments such as the banjo, acoustic guitar, fiddles, and harmonicas.
Jazz, in nature contains many characteristics of black people because its origin was from an African music. When we talk about jazz as a black music, the black here refer to African-American. African music is characterized by collective performance as a musical element. Several people played together and danced and enjoyed music. That's why rhythm play was more important than melody in Jazz eventually in Hancock’s music.
For example, Blues. Latin jazz and Blues share many common component, elements and other features that show their similarities although the most strongest similarity between both styles is their shared cultural origins. Blues originated in 19th century southern United States and Latin jazz originated in African American communities in southern United States during the early 20th century. They both originated around the same parts of North America, around the same time. Latin jazz and Cool jazz also developed around the same time which was during the
The birth of hip hop took place in the Bronx, New York , during a time of poverty , Initially when Hip Hop first came about no one would have imagined how vastly and quickly it grew nor would they have predicted the influence on society it has today. This particular enriched and animated, genre of music went from the local backwoods of the projects to a multi millionaire industry. If you ask most people today their definition of Hip Hop , generally they would say a cool rhyming scheme with a hook and a catchy tune, which is not too far off. But it is much deeper than that .Hip hop is a form of expression like a factory , if you may .
Jazz is as beautiful and is considered a grand style of music. Jazz does not have a standard pattern. It is, of course, necessary to say that in any Jazz Band there must be two sections provided instrumentally, the Rhythm Section – Piano, Bass and Drums (or other percussion instrument) – and the Horn Section – any woodwind or brass instrument – and depending on the number of instruments involved do we name the band’s form. Jazz is more flexible in terms of which instruments should be involved and what the music sounds like. Flexibility is a keyword in Jazz, because it relies on improvisation.
