“Did you know that jazz was born in the United States? Did you know that the drum was invented by jazz musicians? Did you know that the words cool and hip were originally jazz terms?” I bet you didn’t know.
Jazz is a style of music from America it is played by a strong but flexible understructure with solo and a single effect on basic tunes and chord patterns. Jazz was born in New Orleans about 100 years ago Black music came over to America with the African slaves. The African music was then combined with the music of the Europeans to produce new styles of music including blues and ragtime. The blacks then started to jazz up the marches in America which were very popular by adding rhythm, beats and melodies.
The music of New Orleans helped create early jazz. Many early jazz performers played in places in the city. Dance bands and many marching bands played at funerals later called jazz funerals arranged by the African American and European American people. The instruments used in marching bands and dance bands became the main instruments of jazz. Modal jazz which developed in the late 1950 used the mode or musical scale. Jazz rock developed in the late 1960 and early 1970 by combining jazz music with rock rhythms electric instruments and rock's on stage with its sound. In the early 1980 smooth jazz became successful. Louis Armstrong was one of the most famous musicians in jazz. Fletcher Henderson (1897–1952) and Duke Ellington (1899–1974) established black jazz orchestras that began performing at popular nightclubs in Chicago and new York.
