Jazz is a style of music that began and has been revolutionized within the United States. Some of the greatest artists in the world have contributed to make it one of the most influential types of music. According to Wikipedia, Jazz originated in the late of 19th - early 20th century as interpretation of American and European classical music. It is entwined with African songs and the cultural influences of West African culture. Its composition and style have changed many times throughout the years with each performer's personal interpretation and improvisation. On October 15, I had the chance to attend a jazz concert that was organized by the Department of Arts and Philosophy of Miami Dade College-Wolfson campus. The name of the Jazz band that was playing is “World Music 5”. Based on what they said at the beginning of the program, they named the group “The World Music 5” because of the performance of the world music. It is a band of 5 talented musicians who are, Ed Calle, Nomar Negroni, Federico Britos, Jose Negroni, and Josh Allen. The group usually plays with 5 musicians, but this performance at Wolfson auditorium missed the saxophonist Ed Calle. There were 4 instruments playing in the concert. Federico was playing the violin, Jose on the piano, Allen on the bass, and Nomar was paying the drum. The audience, for the most part, seemed to be made up of college students attending for the same reasons as myself; however, there were some audience members who are part of older age groups. These older age members were located mostly in the center, and they were the first people to applaud after each piece of music. Some of them were dancing or shaking their heads.
