After the sinking of the USS Maine in the Havana Harbor and the eyebrow raising concerns of Spanish treatment of Cuba, President William McKinley declared war against Spain, originating in The Spanish-American War of 1898. It was then that America intervened in Cuba’s war for independence from Spain, eventually seizing the Spanish territories of the Philippines and Guam. As a result, they soon found themselves involved in the mist of the Philippine Revolution.
