Our nation was drastically impacted by many individuals, including Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and Rutherford B. Hayes. Each of these individuals exemplified a true definition of fighting for our nation. During the time of reconstruction, our nation was committed to making a change. Andrew Johnson was another individual involved in the reconstruction. Johnson allowed the Southern states to reconstruct themselves (TCI 23). By observing this evidence, it is clear that he was not promoting the reconstruction. He had a different mindset than Lincoln. He wanted to permit and obstruct any rights that Blacks had. This was very controversial between the North and South. Undoubtedly, Andrew Johnson’s strategies were not helping to unite the states. The power that Johnson had allowed him to enhance the failure of reconstruction. Ultimately, reconstruction endured its challenges, but determination was necessary to modernize our nation. The Reconstruction era had one utmost goal: to promote the relationship of our union. The goal of reconstruction is to bring our nation back together as a whole. The North and South were to both fully participate politically in the Union. The government thought that being united would assist with the issues of rights and relationships. For instance, the Whites could form relationships with the Blacks. Uniting our country would slowly remove the barriers between different races. As a result, new opportunities would be established for all individuals.
