A major art movement called pop art originally took place in the mid-1950s in Britain and eventually reached the United States by the late 1950s. However, It was not until December of 1962 that pop art was officially introduced to the world. People from Britain, the United States, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Japan, and even the Netherlands contributed to the development of pop art. Pop art enabled artists to break traditions that were set by fine arts and enabled them to create new boundaries with limitless concepts. As a result of the pop art movement, artists were able to break free from the strong grip of abstract expressionism. He was born into the family of Ondrej and Ulja Warhola, two Czechoslovakian immigrants. As a child Warhol, experienced a nervous disorder. As a result of his nervous disorder, he would often stay home from school and collect pictures of movie stars and listen to the radio. Warhol’s childhood caused his obsession with pop culture and movie stars which would later influence his most well pieces of art. Later in 1945, he graduated high school at the age sixteen attended Carnegie Institute of technology. Warhol built himself a successful career in commercial illustration by the 1950s. Soon after, he became a renowned artist because of his knowledge, experience with art, and his involvement in American popular culture. Andy Warhol quickly rose from his family’s middle class position to a position in high society. Comic strips and advertisements made their way into the paintings of Warhol in 1960 and paved the way for pop art movement. Throughout the later years of Warhol’s life, he explored his numerous talents such as painting, printmaking, illustration, film-making, and writing. He also explored many different techniques such as silk-screening. This stencil process involves the application of paint or ink onto a porous surface with a rubber squeegee. Warhol died on February 22, 1987 after experiencing complications in a gall bladder procedure. Andy Warhol came to be known as one of the founding fathers of pop
