Atticus tells Jem and Scout “Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit em but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” Miss Maudie goes on to tell Jem and Scout that it is sin because mockingbirds do not do anything to harm people, they just sing their little hearts out for people to enjoy. But there are three mockingbirds in this book, Boo Radley, Tom Robinson and Mr.Dolphus Raymond, all citizens of maycomb county. Boo Radley is Jem and Scouts next door neighbor and he is like a mockingbird because he never does anything to harm anyone, and stays inside of his house, out of sight of everyone in Maycomb except his family. Boo also does not go out of his way to be a nuisance or to harm anyone in Maycomb. While he stays in his house most of the time Boo was there for Jem and Scout when Bob Ewell went to go harm them after the halloween pageant. After Scouts and Jems run in with Bob Ewell, Scout finally meets Boo for first time when he stands in the corner of Jem’s room, trying to hide from the people in the room. As he walks home from work he passes the Ewell house and notices that Mayella Ewell, the oldest daughter, doing the chores by herself, so Tom would use his own time to help out Mayella Ewell with some chores. But because of this gratitude Bob and Mayella Ewell made false claims saying that “Tom had raped Mayella” and because Tom is black he was found guilty in court and sent to prison. But instead of listening to Atticus’ advice he took of to the gat of the prison and started climbing it to escape but as he got close to the top he was shot dead on the spot. He did not do anything to hurt anyone, and just wanted to help out someone in need even though he only had one good
