During the civil rights movement, there was segregation in everywhere for instance restaurants,bathrooms, schools, water fountains, and public places. The peak of this movement was in the 1950s and 1960s where many important leaders emerged and events occurred. After the civil war white people still thought that blacks are still secondary people. Whites still thought that blacks do not deserve the superior life as whites have. Jim Crow was a person who dressed up and made fun of blacks. Brown vs Board of Education Brown vs board of education was a problem that whites get really good schools and private schools and blacks cannot get a good education and cannot get smart. Also, the Arkansas nine was a nine of African Americans high schoolers. When they went to an all-white high school and they got beat up and army troops were brought in to protect the Arkansas nine. Also, there was a lot a lot of segregation in all schools. Influential Events Rosa Parks Rosa Parks was a very important leader she was not giving up her spot on the bus for a white man and she stayed until the cops came and arrested here and charged her a ten dollar fine. Ten dollars back then was worth $92.32. Rosa Parks sparked the protest named the bus boycott that leads a big part of this dreadful time in history. After she got out of jail she went to MLK Jr. and did a speech that influenced 90 percent of blacks not ride the bus and made the government lose a lot of money. The bus boycott was originated in Montgomery and this happened on Dec 5, 1855, and ended on Dec 20, 1856. They started their journey on may 4rth 1961 and ended on may 24 1961. This protest was sparked and inspired by Rosa Parks and the bus boycott when the arrived in Jackson, Mississippi they get arrested. Greensboro sit-ins The Greensboro sit-ins were started by first a group of African Americans that were not allowed to sit at a lunch counter when they came in and sat at it and kept trying and trying to order food and they would move until the cops came and arrested them. Then it sparked an idea and made thousand of people protest and protest this took place in Greensboro and a lot of them kept going to jail but that didn't stop them until they got what was right this protest started in 1960 and ended in 1968. March on Washington D.C. The march on Washington D.C. was the biggest protest of all this march was lead by Martin Luther King Jr. and this march was all the way from Selma to Alabama this was a fifty-four mile march this was an insane protest just imagine two hundred fifty thousand people marching from Selma to Alabama just all these African Americans trying to fight for equality.
