The civil rights movement was divided into several phases. It began with small protests and resulted into mass movements. The first movement was the Montgomery Bus Boycott. On December 1st, 1955 Rosa Parks from Montgomery, Alabama, refused to give her seat to a white bus rider. Rosa Parks was sent to jail and a boycott of the bus's in Montgomery, Alabama began. Martin Luther King Jr. emerged as the leader and had several skills. Martin had amazing oratorical and conciliatory skills. King was the a major spokesmen for all blacks.
