These producers are in former colonies of European countries or European territory. Through the assistance of the policy, those countries' economies benefited since they are heavily dependent on their banana industry. On the other hand, Chiquita lost from the EU common policy because the restrictions were placed on producers in Latin American countries, which is where Chiquita grows most of its bananas.
