Christopher Columbus was one of the greatest explorers known to man. Columbus had many different reasons for his explorations. Later, the main reason for his explorations was selfishness. Just like many other explorers before Columbus, he wanted land, he wanted power, and he also wanted gold. The reason for his very first voyage to what he thought was India, but later was found out to be Central America, was to get land for Spain.
Christopher Columbus as we know is the historical person credited for the discovery of the New World. Zheng He was a Hui-Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral, who commanded voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. Each men and their fleets had two completely different reason for their travel. Christopher Columbus purpose was to find a new trade way to the Asian countries. Zheng He's purpose was to enlarge empires control of seaway trade.
Columbus died not knowing he later found America after he discovered the Caribbean. Magellan later made a route around the world all the way to Africa with the help of a map (dock D). The priests of the churches became mad because they claimed that God made the World flat but was wrong, as well as thinking that the heavens were above the clouds. They were later wrong. The Explorers are still known for “exploring” and “finding” America and the caribbeans.
Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. His discovery of the New World created a chain reaction leading to the Age of Exploration. Portugal, Spain, England, Holland, and France immediately set forth to claim land and set up a colonization in the New Worlds. Many explorers were sent out to claim whatever land they could for their country. Explorers such as Jacques Cartier, Francisco Pizzaro, Francisco Vasquez De Coronado, and Hernando Cortes were all looking for land to claim.
Europe 's government greatly demanded spices and gold from Asia, so they tried to find a water route to Asia. Columbus sailed towards what he thought was Asia, but instead found America. During the voyage, there was a risk of no winds, unknown weather, and shortages of supplies. When Columbus saw land, he anchored all of the ships and headed for land. Columbus named the new island San Salvador, and started exploring the fairly tropical area.

All three of Columbus’s ships were stocked with supplies, food, and sea men who were prepared for the long journey ahead of them. Although Columbus had not realized it at the time, he and his men discovered what would become Europe’s foothold in the advancing world.

He sailed to America with his three ships: the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Columbus came with slaves on his ships that he forced to come on the voyage with him. Evenmore, he stole the land that he ‘discovered’ from natives that stayed there before Columbus came.

Even though I believe that he is a hero and we should celebrate him through a national holiday, I want to give you a chance to decide whether you think he is a hero or a Villain and choose if we should celebrate him as a national holiday.
Christopher Columbus was a very important man in the 15th & 16th century because of his many achievements around the world. One of his greatest achievements occurred on August 1st which was discovering the continent of South America. It was an extremely dangerous journey that took four long voyages to fully complete. On the first voyage, he landed on the Paria Peninsula and thought it was a small island. He founded a small colony on Hispaniola a while after, and “returned to Spain with riches along with Indian Captives in 1496”(Columbus Lands).

But what we don’t know, is what Columbus thought when he arrived in the North America or what he though of the Native Americans he met. In fact, we don’t know much about all the explorers after Columbus and what they thought. Each explore had their own view of the Native Americans, and three great examples are Columbus, Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda and Bartolomé de Las Casas

He is credited, as we know today, with discovering America. In the year of 1492, Columbus' fleet of three ships set sail to discover new land. Who would have thought that this journey would make a forever bookmark in the history of mankind, as well as change the world from that point forward?
