Christopher Columbus, was an Italian-Spanish navigator who sailed west across the Atlantic Ocean, in hopes to find a route to Asia but instead he found Guanahani Island; an island in the Bahamas; discovering the New World, and changing history forever. During 1400’s Europe was going through the renaissance, the Black Death was finally over and society was starting to progress. Trade and exploration was starting to progress. People were beginning to explore the coasts of Africa and at the end of this time, the Americas. Books were common now that printing was invented. Most people were able to read these books. It was the age of Exploration in Europe. Columbus was born in the territory Genoa, now a part of modern day Italy in 1451. He spent his childhood helping his father run his cheese-stand. Columbus had obsessed over the sea, and in one of his writings he said he had gone to sea at the age of 10. He spent his life writing and studying texts, and the bible.( Christopher Columbus Bio). Columbus believed that the Earth was made of 6 parts of land and only one body of water. He was intrigued by Marco Polo’s findings and read his letters about his voyages and finding that China was the richest kingdom in the world. …show more content…

He lacked the money, crew, and ship needed to fulfill his dream. No one during this time had any faith in it; they thought he was crazy for believing that he can travel westward to reach Asia. The world was thought to be flat. Columbus was certain it was round, and had taught his young son the facts he had come to learn.
