Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross in 1881. Barton impacted so many lives because of this. She was a wartime hero by being a powerful battlefield nurse. She earned the nickname “Angel of the Battlefield” while working as a nurse. Clara Barton was an inspirational and important person in history because of her early years in life, her role during war-time, and founding the American Red Cross. She applied to the Clinton Liberal Institute for female teachers in New York, and was accepted. Clinton Institute is a co-educational preparatory school. Once Clara graduated from the Clinton Institute, her mother sadly died from a case of pneumonia. She decided to spend some time with her old friend because of this terrible event (Hamilton, 24-25).
