Charles Fisher was born on August 15, 1808 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was the eldest son of Susanna Williams and Peter Fisher. His father, Peter Fisher, was the first to write and publish a history book in the province. Peter also criticized New Brunswick’s decision to take wealth from the colony’s resources without contributing to the political and social development. Charles’s father’s slight political experience influenced him greatly.

Edwin James, a scientist and explorer who lived from 1797 until 1861, held a wide range of experience and knowledge about a multitude of different fields. He attended the Long Expedition of 1820, which was a scientific journey along the Platte River and through the Rocky Mountains. During this expedition, he contributed by providing his knowledge of medicine, botany, and geology, as well as having kept detailed notes on the discoveries that he and the other members of the expedition made; afterwards, he went on to study Native American languages, and wrote countless books that helped shape our understanding of history and the natural world. He was born “at Weybridge, Vermont, in 1797, was graduated from Middlebury College in 1816 and later studied botany under John Torrey and James Eaton, and medicine under his brother, Dr. John James” (Wood).

Meriwether Lewis was Virginia born, “...in a time of independence and where the West provided exploration and East provided education and knowledge.” Lewis grew up in a family of explorers and land owners which made them particularly rich. His father died from pneumonia when he was 5 years old and his mother remarried Captain John Marks. Lewis always had a very close relationship with his mother.
Their ship was trapped in an ice flow and was getting crushed from all sides. After a long war with the ice they had lost, the ice was victorious and it succeeded at it’s goal which was to sink their ship. Shackleton knew he had to calm his crew before they could go on because they had just lost their main source of transport. He had decided they better keep moving, although the ship was sunk they managed to get the dogsleds before it was submerged by water, as well as some lifeboats. Darwin starts his argument by stating how closely similar certain animals and humans are formed or how humans and these “lower animals” develop over time physically and mentally. Then states how similar humans and the “lower animals” are birthed. He also makes that point of how man and these other animals have a similar structure in bodily systems such as the digestive system. Darwin then makes the point how humans are not immune to the natural selection which he sees as evidence that humans have evolved just like other creatures. Morality is a very subjective topic, one person’s morals may differ greatly from another. Philosophers such as Darwin and Marx took it upon themselves to make a hypothesis as to what primarily influences a person’s morality. Darwin states that the greatest influence on human morality is survival; whereas, Marx believes that the ruling class is what manipulates our morality; however, Darwin's philosophy is more accurate due the increased amount of evidence he has compared to Marx. Darwin was a firm believer in evolution and natural selection, and he wrote many works which provided evidence of his hypothesis.
This article is a description of Sir Francis Drake’s voyage, detailing the specific events that transpired throughout the voyage. Throughout this paper I will be comparing and contrasting these two voyages. Sir Francis Drake and Ferdinand de Magellan both had a fleet of five ships that accompanied them on their voyage.
