Born in Utah and raised in Seattle Washington, he was not considered an intelligent man but someone with a low IQ and a person who tortured animals (Gary Ridgway, n.d.). Gary’s mother, who he was infatuated with was mentally and physically abusive causing him to wet the bed frequently (Gary Ridgway, n.d.). “In 1963, aged 14, Gary attempted to kill a six-year-old boy by stabbing him, but wasn’t caught” (Gary Ridgway, n.d.).
John Wayne Gacy was one of the most vicious serial killers to exist in the United States history. He was known as the clown who killed. He was convicted of 33 murders in total, all of his victims were male and most of them consisted of teenage boys. Gacy was first convicted of sexual assault in 1968, and he had later went on to kill 33 young males. Twenty-Nine of those bodies were buried underneath his property in the Chicago Suburbs and four were found in a nearby river.
John Wayne Gacy was, in my opinion, by far the most twisted and sinister serial killer in American History. He was a prominent businessman in Cook County, Illinois, in a suburb of Chicago. His victims were all his lovers, and he killed to cover his homosexuality and to satisfy his sadistic need on top of his need for control. Gacy had an abusive and alcoholic father, who abused his mother as well as his older and younger siblings, 3 kids in total. John was a portly child who was not athletic and did not blend well into the social scene in his school life.

Although very mentioned and feared when people hear his name, with fewer than three murders attributed, it is said that Ed Gein does not meet the traditional definition of a Serial killer.

A serial killer can best be described as a person who commits a series or murders, often with no apparent motive and typically following a characteristic, predictable behavior pattern. A disturbing fact about serial killers is that most of them should be eminently identifiable. Serial killers commit their acts specifically in one place, therefore, give the residents of the community, its police force, and even their neighbors ample opportunity to find out what they are. The fact they are not caught is attributed to three factors. The first being the characteristics of the victims, which in Jeffrey Dahmer's case he prayed mostly on gay men.

Gacy’s childhood was no more extraordinary than any other at the time. He murdered and robbed graves for body parts to make furniture and clothing. He was apprehended in 1957, where he stood trial and was institutionalized.
