Due to the tremendous fame he had built up during and after his military career he was able to become President for two terms. After Eisenhower had led the Allies to victory and serving as the Supreme Commander of NATO, he was approached by the Republican party and he ran for President. After winning the election in a landslide using the catchphrase “I Like Ike”, Eisenhower went on to do many things for America and the rest of the world. He helped to improve the lives of all Americans in the US because of what had happened to him when he was in the military. Eisenhower grew up poor and focused on education which led him to West Point. At West Point he learned how become an officer and other basic skills he would use later. At first he was assigned simple positions underneath generals who took an interest in him and helped put him on the right path by advising him to go another military academy. He graduated first in his class and proved he was one of the greatest prospects in the military and he soon received major assignments. Eisenhower was then made the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces and launched D-Day, which marked the beginning of the end of Germany. Then he became President due to his success as a war hero, and he refined life for Americans and strived to bring peace around the world as well. If were not for Dwight D. Eisenhower, the whole world would have been different. The Axis powers could have won the war and life would not be as free anymore. Simply traveling from place to place would so much more of a discomfort without the highways.
