Elie Wiesel was a teenager that grew up in Sighet, Transylvania, who was taken from his home, along with his family, to a concentration camp in Auschwitz and then later moved to Buchenwald in 1944. In the camps, Elie had to survive the hardships and cruelty of the Holocaust. There were three main things that focused on survival, food, family, and most importantly, faith. Food seems to be the key to survival, but in reality it killed more people than it saved. During an air raid, some cauldrons of soup were left unattended. No one dared to try and take some except for one hungry prisoner.
