The Impact of Elvis Presley
Music is a thing that is loved by everyone, some people even say that it has saved their lives. There are many different genres in music, hip hop, country, funk, classical, rock, etc. Elvis Presley “The King Of Rock'' has changed the world forever. He changed the music industry and people's lives forever with his famous vulgar dance movement, his great character, and his love for other people. To this day he lives on in people's lives. My grandpa who is now 65 is a huge Elvis fan and he even said, “ I grew up on Elvis, that is what my parents would listen to. His family was very close; he grew up living very close to his aunts and uncles, cousins, and his grandparents. He was born with a twin named Jessie but unfortunately he died at birth which left Elvis to grow up an only child. His family grew up poor and did all they could to give Elvis a happy life. He was very interested in music from a young age according to Tom Ott, “ Still, there were signals of his unusual gifts as far back as age two, when he would scamper off his mother's lap at church and run over to join the choir in full swell.” His first ever music outing was in a talent show at the Mississippi-Alabama fair at 10 years old. He snagged in front of tons of people and he placed fifth. In the seventh grade he got his first guitar. From there he started to weekley put on a showcase for the local Mississippi DJ to help get his name out more. He moved to Memphis Tennessee in 1948 and attended HUmes High School. He was very shy so he would only sing in front of his music teacher. Later in his last two years of high school he started to become more of the Elvis we know today. He started wearing flashy clothes and singing more. Right out of High School June 1953 he went into Sun-Records and filmed his first famous record. Elton John and the Bettles is a perfect example of being influenced by Elvis Presley. Elton John was a huge fan of Elvis and he changed Elton’s life in many ways. According to Best Classic Bands Elton John stated, “Ask anyone. If it hadn’t been for Elvis, I don’t know where popular music would be. He was the one that started it all off, and he was definitely the start of it for me.” Elton John is one of the biggest artists of all time; he has sold around 300 million records all around the world. He achieved 5 grammy awards in his life. Elvis changed his life in another way as well that didn’t have to do with music. Elton suffered from drug abuse just like Elvis did. It was a very hard time in his life and he wasn’t sure he would make it out of his drug addtcition alive. In 1976 Elton got the opportunity to meet his inspiration Elvis and he said in an interview with Oprah Winfery that, “It was so sad, because he turned into this big man with no eyes, they had sunk into the back of his head and it was pathetic." He saw someone who he Idolized for so long struggling to even keep his eyes open due to the drugs he was using. He saw someone who was killing himself. After that he meeting he really sarted to think if he wanted to end up like Elvis and decided to change his life around and get off of drugs. It wasn't the way Elton wanted to remember Elvis but in a way it changed his life
