Have you ever listened to modern-day Rock-n-Roll, and wondered where this music began and who made it popular today? Elvis changed the music and entertainment industry as soon as he became famous. His music changed American society in many positive ways by bringing a new genre of music and uniting many people from different backgrounds. From a young age, Elvis was around African-American blues artist in his local town. Also, he would hear those working on local farms singing, he eventually took this form of music, and made it into his own sound. But if one woman by the name of Marion Keisker had never seen the young Presley’s potential he may have never become the icon and legend he’s known as today. The first boy Jessie Garon died shortly after birth, the other Elvis Aaron was born healthy. The childhood of Elvis Aaron Presley was not an easy one, he began working at a young age to help support the family. Growing up Elvis had a close family, his aunts, uncles, and grandparents were very involved with him. Elvis began singing at a young age and began teaching himself to play guitar at only 10 years old. He would sing and play for his local church, “The Assembly of God Church”. Church was where he first learned the meaning and power of music, later local blues artist influenced him to sing more than just hymnals in the church choir. On the date of October 3rd, 1945 Elvis preformed his first public musical performance, in a youth talent show in the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show (Graceland). The show was broadcast over WELO Radio, even though he placed 5th it was none the less his first live performance of many to come
