“Thank you, thank you very much.” said by the King of Rock-and Roll, otherwise known as Elvis Aaron Presley. He was a very important part of pop culture and the way music is today. Presley influenced the pop ballads and country music of this time. Presley also created a style and sound that has never been seen before from a variety of musical influences, he also provided a sounds to represent the new generation. Music and pop culture in the 1950s was very different from today’s pop culture and music. Popular music today include music genres such as Hip Hop and R&B, not that this musical genres were known in the 1950s they were not as popular. Elvis Presley is one of the most influential rock- and- roll artists of all time because of this musical achievements, his movie roles, and his impact of the future of rock- and- roll.
Vernon and Gladys Presley gave birth to their son Elvis Presley on January 8th, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. He also had a twin brother, Jesse Garon Presley, who was stillborn. He was married once to Priscilla in 1967 and had one daughter Lisa Marie in 1968. Unfortunately, He was divorced October 9th, 1973. One of Presley’s first interests in music came to him when he attended the Assembly of God Church where he became interested in gospel music. At the age of ten, he purchased his first guitar which was another reason he was interested in music. In 1956 he signed a movie contract with Paramount Pictures( Par 5). His first film, “Love me Tender”(1956) was a box office hit (Par.6). In 1960 after serving in the military, Presley made it back on the charts with the soundtrack for his film “GI Blues”. The films he acted in were not always the best they were considered a “hit or miss”. Marcie Wallace states that Presley starred in 31 films during his career such as”Blue Hawaii”, “Girls! Girls! Girls!”, and “Viva Las Vegas” ( Wallace pg. 102). He also featured on television one of his first TV special “68 Comeback” in 1968.
