17 million people died in this war. It has been one of the worst wars ever fought. The Versailles Treaty produced German anger and humiliation sowing the seeds for World War II. It did this through territorial loss, military restrictions, economic reparations, and “war guilt”. Hitler has no excuses for what he has done. These are some of the things that helped cause World War II. To start, World War II was partly caused by territorial loss. According to Adolf Hitler’s book Mein Kampf, everything requires war or violence. When he says “No nation can remove this hand from its throat except by sword” he means that if you want to bring yourself out of danger then you must use violence or force. France had control over all the countries that were surrounding Germany. This made Germany feel scared and they felt like there was no way they could defend themselves. The French had the most troops. According to Article 160 of the Versailles Treaty, the army’s purpose was to keep order of everything and will maintain everything throughout the war. To conclude, Germany felt insecure about their defense mechanisms, for France had the most troops and had control over all the countries such as, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Poland. Additionally, World War II was caused by economic reparations. According to Article 232 of the Versailles Treaty, Germany needed to compensate all the money for the damage they did to all the countries. They needed to pay 132 billion gold marks (which is $367 billion) over 30 years. Later in 1929, they reduced the amount to 112 billion gold marks (which is $341 billion). When Hitler comes to power he stops all the reparation payments. In conclusion, Germany did not want to pay all the money to the countries. Therefore, Germany didn’t want to pay all the
