The crime took place in Baltimore County, possibly in the Best Buy parking lot or in Leakin Park. The previous court ruled Adnan Syed guilty and sentenced him with life in prison. SUMMARY OF THE ARGUMENT Adnan Syed should be granted post-conviction relief, because Christina Gutierrez failed to request evidence and failed to investigate Adnan's alibi, Asia McClain. Mr. Syed was sentenced to life in prison when his past trial counsel (Christina Gutierrez) made outstanding errors. Ms. Gutierrez failed to request potential evidence of the defendant Adnan Syed.
Unjust Seventeen years ago, high schooler Hae Min Lee was murdered and buried in a shallow grave. After a controversial investigation and trial, her ex boyfriend Adnan Syed was sentenced to life in prison. He was nineteen years old. But Adnan Syed did not kill Hae Lee; not only is there evidence to support his innocence, the evidence against Syed crumbles under pressure and the sole reason he was convicted is because the justice system failed him. To begin, Adnan Syed simply did not murder his friend Hae Lee.
Eileena Luu Mrs. Eddins English II Honors 03/30/23 Opening Statement Greetings, people of the jury, my name is Eileena Luu. I am here to represent the prosecution of Adnan Syed who murdered Hae Min Lee. When Hae told Adnan that she would be breaking up with him for the final time he was heart-wrenched as if someone had taken a piece of him away. Sadness and anguish continued to consume him more after he found out that Hae would quickly find another partner to share her love with.
In his most recent appeal, Adnan claims that his lawyer, Cristina Gutierrez, failed to provide an effective defense. Specifically, she never contacted the alibi witness, Asia McLean, and she never pursued any plea-bargain conversations that Syed had requested. Whether these accounts are true or not, it seems like Adnan didn’t get Gutierrez’ A-game when she was defending his life. This evidence supports the claim because it shows that Gutierrez did not use all of her evidence properly and seems as though she did not prepare enough for the trial which is probably a key factor of why Adnan was convicted in the first place. Christina Gutierrez was having medical issues but she didn’t know it.
We have requested a dual testimony from Adnan and Jay, they are going to have to give his story more than once because Jay changed for us every interview. If we can get that from Jay and Adnan to say his side twice and it stay the same, the jury will probably say Jay is guilty and Adnan is not guilty. It’s been 4 hours since the Jurors have been out in session, hopefully they find a verdict soon. Once they come back and we have a verdict it will either be great or awful. “In the case of Adnan and Jay VS Hae Min Lee, Jay has been found guilty of Conspiracy to murder, and murder in the first degree, Adnan Syed has been found Not Guilty on all counts”.
On February 9, 1999 Hae Min Lee was found in Leakin Park, Baltimore, Maryland with signs of manual strangulation. The state claimed that Adnan Syed, Hae’s former boyfriend at the time was responsible because they believed he was enraged of their relationship ending. My claim is Adnan Syed is likely not responsible for the death of Hae Min Lee, because there was insufficient evidence to prove he was guilty and the trial was unfair, it was based more on his racial background than the actual case itself. Adnan can be proved innocent with Don’s odd alibi and suspicions.
In my opinion, I think Adnan Syed is innocent what do you think? This argumentative essay is about a serial podcast is about the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee. The person charged for her murder and sentenced to 15 years in prison was Adnan Syed but due to the evidence I do not think Adnan Syed is Guilty of the murder of Hae Min Lee. The first reason why I think Adnan Syed is innocent.
Adnan Syed is speciously guilty of first degree murder of Hae Min Lee. Syed claims to have no recollection of the events that occurred on January 13, 1999 which, in some cases could be a way to further prove one’s innocence, but it also means Syed has no solid alibi to contradict Jay Wilds narrative of what exactly happened that day. If a person does not have an alibi verified with witnesses to counteract another person’s story claiming you murdered another person on a particular day, they are probably guilty of committing that crime. However, Syed was asked to account for a day that happened 6 weeks prior to questioning, it’s not irregular that he cannot remember specific details especially if it was just a regular old day for him. To start
Not only did Christina not contact Adnan’s sole alibi, she also didn’t attempt to disprove the one story that Adnan’s trial was based off of. After receiving word that Gerald Grant told the court about the specularity of the cell phone records, an affidavit from Abraham Waranowitz was written. "If I had been made aware of this disclaimer, it would have affected my testimony," (Crimesider Staff). Waranowitz had previously testified that the cell phone records were what placed Syed at the burial site. If Christina had just argued this point and focused on the unreliability of cell phone records, she could have made the prosecution's evidence useless against Syed.
This first trial was actually going well for Adnan; the jurors said they were on the way to acquitting him. So had this trial played out, Adnan might be a free man. However, the second trial did not end well. Cristina was still a good lawyer and worked hard to prove Adnan’s innocence, but her arguments weren’t very organized. “it wasn’t like a clear outline, like the prosecution had” (Koenig, “The Best
Adnan, Innocent or Guilty? How do you feel about an ex-boyfriend killing his ex-girlfriend on a random day? Well this story supposedly happened to Adnan Syed who was convicted for the murder of Hae Min Lee, and in my opinion, I conclude Adnan is innocent based on lots of evidence from the podcast “Serial.” In the year around 1999 Adnan Syed was a young teenage boy at Woodlawn High School, and he used to date Hae Min Lee but then they broke up.
Asia saw Adnan at the time of Hae Min Lee's death, so she was the only witness who could prove Adnan’s innocence. Bringing up Asia was to accentuate how Adnan, a lawyer in the beginning, wasn’t a proper lawyer to begin with. When Adnan's lawyer, Christina Guiterrezz, found out about Asia, she had completely dismissed the idea of her being a witness. This also ensures everyone questions the state as well, considering they didn’t check in on Gutierrez as a lawyer. Unfortunately, she is no longer alive, so nobody is able to speak with her about the case.
During Adnan’s trial, there were many flaws that could’ve contributed to an unfair trial such as a bias jury, an attorney who made mistakes, and the failure to investigate other murder
Relationships, lies, murder, conviction. These are all aspects that come into play when talking about the January 13th, 1999 murder of high school student Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, Hae’s 17-year-old ex-boyfriend was convicted of her murder in 2000. The problem with this is that the only evidence the state had to convict Adnan was the stories told by others, specifically someone named Jay who was with Adnan for some of the day Hae went missing and had possession of Adnan’s car and cell phone. He claims Adnan made him come pick him up after the murder was committed and assist him in burying Hae’s body.
Adnan is Innocent Do you remember what you did on this day, exactly one week ago? You might remember some things about that day, or you might remember nothing. How about if I asked what you did 6 weeks ago on this day? Could you tell me?
