Mikaela Callahan Senior Nonfiction English Murderer of Hae Min Lee Persuasive Essay The Murder of Hae Min Lee Adnan Syed has been a prisoner since his senior year of high school, whose destiny is to die in his jail cell someday and never come back to the world. At least, that's what his indictment is. Syed was arrested for the murder of Hae Min Lee, an ex-girlfriend of his, despite there being an overwhelming lack of evidence and support for his accusation. The only real case the accuser had was the witness statement given by Jay Wilds, and cell phone tower pings that synced up with it. But this case was disgustingly mismanaged and poorly carried out. It should also be mentioned that Jay stated he was close to Adnan, but people whom are known to have been very close friends with Adnan at the high school stated that they were not close at all, barely friends- acquaintances, perhaps. Now, if Jays possible motive is looked at, there is actual substance. It is mentioned over the course of the season several times that Jay really really loved his girlfriend, Stephanie. It is said that, “through all the craziness, she was his amazingness,” as cheesy as that sounds. She was a huge part of him. It is also well known that Adnan was really close friends with Stephanie. He stated it himself whilst describing their relationship to Sarah from the prison phones, and Christina said that this should have been brought up during the investigation as a more “troubling” aspect of Jay and Adnans relationship.
