June 15, 2018 During a time of civil and systematic inequalities, many minorities felt the right to be treated equally. Different walks of life affected their approach on the problem. Civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr and Jesse Jackson took a more peaceful direction at attaining equal rights for African Americans at the time. While others like Malcom X and Huey Newton took a more militaristic approach.
Ideologies of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X The Civil Rights Movement 1950s and1960s consisted of the efforts made by Civil rights activist to end racial segregation and discrimination. Even though basic civil rights for African America where granted through the Fourteenth and Fifteenth amendments of the United States Constitution (Franklin, 535-536). However, Jim Crow laws and institutionalized racism continued to oppress African Americans decades later and considered them second class citizen. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X are probably the most prominent African American civil rights leaders of the 20th century.
Starting in 1954 African Americans decided once and for all that now was a sweet time for a revolution. Since the moment they were forced to come to this country they have been treated worse than terrible. They have had to fight and claw for every right they have, and between 1954 and 1965 was an important war. In these years the civil rights movement changed the lives of African Americans for the better, it got the buses and schools desegregated, and gave African Americans the right to vote. In these years separate was no longer considered equal.
Martin Luther King vs. Malcolm X Philosophical Differences In the 1900s, as racism had become more and more apparent, leaders started to rise up in attempt to change society’s opinion which led to and increasing amount of people becoming involved in the Civil Rights Movement. Many had conflicting ideas about how to eliminate racism, and as people became bolder with their beliefs, different strategies started to emerge. Two ideas among many were the main tactics used to convince people that segregation should be stopped. These two ideas were sprung from the minds of two different men, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. When equal rights were not established, protests and marches were the major uses of displaying indignation towards racism.
First, Harriet Tubman helped bring about change in the civil rights movement by being involved in the abolitionist movements. Harriet Tubman took a large step in joining movements to stop slavery, oppression, and segregation. Abolitionist movements work to help give all races, genders, and religions equal rights. Harriet Tubman’s speeches and actions were one of the building blocks for civil rights in the U.S. Harriet’s devotion and determination resulted in a stronger and more well-rounded country. “In the late 1850’s she spoke at anti-slavery gatherings and a women’s rights meeting in 1860”
(1) The whole nation watched as thousands of civil rights leaders stood up for what they believed was right. Leaders did this while in the Civil Rights Movement. This movement happened in the mid-1900s. (4) According to the History Channel, “the Civil Rights Movement was a struggle for social justice [for blacks]” (Civil Rights).
The NAACP became the most powerful Civil Rights organization in U.S and wanted to challenge segregation in the courts. Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court ruled that segregation in schools was unconstitutional and overturned “separate but equal.” Civil Rights Movement ended legal segregation, protected Civil Rights, increased pride and racial identity and African Americans were able to vote, go to college. Some believe it is safe to say that the Reconstruction era was a complete failure. It fell short of achieving it’s goals and was counterproductive. In many ways it created a worse environment for the African American society, they were better of in way prior to the civil war. Many people argue that the Reconstruction era was successful because of the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth amendments.
They represented the interests of all African Americans, and they started to make decisions based on ones which would make their lives better, because they still faced many hard ships even though they were now equal to whites. African Americans greatly shaped the outcome and consequences of the Civil War. They were the cause of it, they played a key role in the battles, and they effected the political make up regarding African Americans, of not only the South, but the whole country. If the African Americans had not played a role in the war, the north may have still won because of their size, but the odds are that there would still be slavery and or segregation in the United States
Civil Rights Movement Many people take for granted not having to sit in different sides of the bus or being able to eat in the same restaurant and even walking on the sidewalk. African Americans before the Civil Rights movement were harassed or treated very disrespectfully by whites. Many Supreme Court cases concerning slavery or separation between blacks and whites helped America get closer and closer to were whites were able to understand that there not much different than blacks: (Dred Scott v. Sanford, Plessy v. Ferguson, Brown v. Board). Dred Scott was a African American that lived in the Illinois.
“One individual can begin a movement that turns the tide of history. Martin Luther King in the civil rights movement [is an example] of people standing up with courage and non-violence to bring about needed changes” (Jack Canfield). The Civil Rights Movement of the 1950’s and 1960’s was a renewed struggle for equal rights. Despite African Americans being freed of slavery, they were still mistreated and discriminated against. The South was taking great measures to ensure that African Americans could not be equal to whites, such as Jim Crow laws and the literacy test.
The African American Civil Rights movement existed at large between the early fifties and the late sixties in a society that was constantly on the verge of social destruction. The black rights movement existed politically, socially, and economically everywhere in the United States. As time progressed the movement developed and saw many changes along with schisms separating activists and how they approached getting their rights. In the early fifties there was a large non-violent integration based movement spearheaded by figures such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. However, as the time progressed, the movement started seeing a more aggressive leadership with figures such as Malcolm X, but eventually it turned into an extremist movement

Introduction The story of the Civil Rights Movements of African Americans in America is an important story that many people knew, especially because of the leadership Martin Luther King Jr. Black people in America, between 1945 and 1970 had to fight for rights because they had been segregated by white people, they didn’t have equal laws compared to white people. So they initiated the Civil Rights Movements to fight for getting equal civil rights.

This time in history was known as the Civil Rights Movement, a movement from 1954-1954, in which people fought against racism. Although the Civil Rights Movement mainly affected African Americans, but involved all of American society. Because most racism against ancient African Americans took place in southern United States, civil rights was extremely important to African Americans who lived in the south. Racism was so widely spread it even found its way into professional sports.
