Most people immediately think of Harriet Tubman when considering the Abolitionist movement, because of her heroic acts and the impact she had on slavery throughout her life. Harriet was born around 1820 on a plantation in Dorchester county, Maryland. During her career her most well-known deed was helping to release over 300 slaves from slavery. During her journey, she displayed characteristics such as courage, persistence, and great discipline. To this day, it is told that Tubman never lost a single figurative while leading them to freedom. She also contributed to the movement by being active in the civil war. According to “Harriet Tubman by way.org”, when the civil war began she started her work as a cook and a nurse and overtime made her way up to an armed scout and spy. The last way she intervened with the movement, according to “National Museum of African American History and Culture” was by becoming the first ever woman to lead an armed expedition in the war. This truly helped people turn their beliefs to the fact that one day they could be freed because of the things Tubman was doing and contributing while facing many struggles. Even though Tubman's life seems ideal and hero-like, she still had to overcome a great deal of hardship and deal with many struggles. According to the “History Channel”, at a young age Tubman was struck in the head by a very hard object, this incident caused her brain to be permanently damaged leading to seizures and many other dangerous acts.
