Lord of the Flies is a book about a group of boys that are stranded on an island after a plane crash. They are the only survivors and there are no adults on the island with them. As a group, they will learn how to survive and create tribes and leadership roles. Not everything is perfect with the groups they create. Everything will fall out of order, chaos and death will be shown in the groups. One character, Jack is the cause of this death, what would he be charged with if convicted of his crimes off the island. Jack was never happy that he was not chosen to be leader. After the fire had gone out, Piggy had tried to explain how he shouldn’t have let the fire out and Jack turned violent. “You didn’t ought to have let that fire out. You said you’d keep the smoke going--”. “This from Piggy, and the wails of agreement from some of the hunters, drove Jack to violence. The bolting look came into his blue eyes. Jack was involved in the deaths of Simon and Piggy, but was not actually the one who killed them. Since Jack was not the one to actually kill Simon and Piggy, he would not be charged with First Degree Murder. He would be charged with a lower degree of murder other than first degree. Jack had started the events leading up to the deaths of Simon and piggy, he would receive some blame, but enough for a First Degree Murder charge. This argument would be wrong because Jack was reckless and had took a major part in their deaths. He had had a direct linking cause between the deaths of Simon and Piggy. This is why Jack would be charged with First Degree
